City advises of temporary emergency water shutdown in Mandalay, section of Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plan and Strandfontein

17 May 2022

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate is currently doing an emergency shutdown this morning on the water supply main from its Mandalay Pressure Reduction Installation due to vandalism of critical infrastructure. This began at 09:30 and is estimated to last until 14:00, but the damage assessment will provide a clearer picture of the timeframe.

Areas to be affected by the shutdown are Mandalay, a section of Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain and Strandfontein.

Residents are kindly requested to store water where possible in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period and to keep their taps closed to prevent any water wastage and/or damage when the water supply is restored.

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience, but it is imperative that it maintains and upgrades its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.
